Below you will find many tips and tricks to carpet care. Many times you can eliminate problems
by just maintaining your carpet correctly. Carpet is not just a floor covering, but an investment.

10 Commandments of Carpet Care

Vacuum frequently and thoroughly. Most of the wear of carpeting is caused by dirt. Oily soils
attract more oily soil and frequent vacuuming will reduce soil buildup.

Get at stains quickly, 99% of all stains can be removed by one cleaning agent or another if they
are cleaned in the first few days. The longer a stain chemically reacts with the carpet the harder it
will be to remove it.

Test carpet before scrubbing
, extracting or spotting. All carpets are different. Some carpets are
very sensitive to acid type cleaners and will lose their color quickly. Other carpet dyes are sensitive to harsh alkalis.
Use appropriate spotters starting with the mildest. Do not use harsh spotting agents unless absolutely
necessary and always neutralize high alkaline or high acid cleaners after use.
Never dig or brush spots. The proper procedure is to scrape the spot towards the middle and
then tamp the spot into the white towel or cloth using a brush or other tamping devices.
A meat tenderizer makes a great tamping tool.

Do not overuse detergents, shampoos or spotters. Too much detergent will result in residual
left in the carpet that even thorough vacuuming may not remove.
Do not overwet carpet. Our carpet detergents are chemically active enough so they do not need
a tremendous amount of wetting. Over-wetting can cause brownout, carpet shrinkage, adhesion
problems and all other kinds of nightmares.

Extract residual if possible. Rotary scrubbing will clean the carpet fibers the best by encapsulating
dirt and detergent residue, which powders off the carpet. Periodic extraction will flush out this dirt and
other organisms deep in the carpet.
Never "coat" a dirty or spotty carpet. After scrubbing or extracting a dirty carpet, if you are not
satisfied with the results, do not apply a coat of carpet protector as this will result in "gluing in the dirt"
making it harder to remove it the next time. Either re-scrub or extract the carpet or leave the carpet until
the next cleaning cycle before you coat.

Vacuum frequently and thoroughly. It is so important it deserves two recommendations.

WHAT IS CARPET ALL ABOUT. WHY DO WE CHOOSE CARPET OVER OTHER SURFACES?

What is carpet?
Carpet is a heavy woven fabric used to cover a floor. The are many methods for weaving carpets, and carpet can
be made from a variety of fabrics. Carpets vary in the height and density of the pile, and come is a wide array
of colors and patterns.

Benefits of carpet
There are many benefits to using carpet as a home floor covering:

Comfort and Insulation: Carpet is comfortable under foot and, particularly if you have children, as a play surface.
Carpet fibers act as an insulation material, and will protect your home from the impact of extreme temperatures.
If you are interested in carpet's insulation qualities, consider buying thicker/denser carpet and combining it with
a thicker carpet pad.

Aesthetics: Providing wall-to-wall coverage of an entire surface of a room, carpet presents a uniform design
element that is always in view. Carpet can be a neutral design element or make a bold statement. It can be
dense and firm under foot, or be deep and lush. Available in more colors, patterns, and textures than ever
before, carpet offers more design variation than any other flooring material.

Less Noise: Carpet provides sound insulation. It will muffle and reduce the transmission of the sounds
of a television or conversation from one bedroom to another. Carpet is significantly reduces the sound
of shoes on flooring, and is much quieter than wood or tile. If you own a two or three story home,
carpeting the floors over rooms that are living space will make the lower rooms much quieter.

Safety from Falling: Carpet provides a less slippery surface than tile, wood, or vinyl. This is particularly
important for the young and old residents of a home. In the event that a slip or stumble does occur,
carpet provides more cushioning than other floor coverings.

Types of Carpet
Cut Pile (Saxony, Texture, Velvet/Plush, and Frieze)
Level Loop Pile (including Berber)
Cut and Loop Pile Multi-Loop Pile

Cut Pile – The best-selling type of carpet is textured cut pile. Cutting looped fibers at the top creates cut
pile with yarn bundles standing straight. Pre-shearing cut pile several times creates a luxurious appearance.
Cut pile is less resistant to crushing than other types of carpet.

Saxony – Saxony’s are tightly twisted cut piles that are heat set straight. Saxony’s consist of tow or more
fibers twisted together in a yarn. They provide a soft texture for formal and informal areas. Saxony’s show
every footprint and vacuum cleaner mark. These carpets have medium durability.

Texture and Textured Saxony’s – Textures are the best-selling carpets and work well in informal areas
(such as a family rooms and children’s bedrooms) because of its soft feel. Textures are lightly twisted and
texture heat set for medium durability. They have a multi-colored look that disguises tracks and footprints.

Velvet/plush – Velvets/Plush’s are lightly twisted and have a uniform color. They are softer and more level
than textures. This type of carpet is ideal for formal areas (such as formal living rooms and master bedrooms)
because of its luxurious appearance. Velvets/Plush’s show every footprint and vacuum cleaner mark

Frieze – Frieze is a highly twisted cut pile carpet suited for high traffic, informal areas. It has short fibers
that tend to curl in different directions at the surface to hide foot prints and vacuum marks.

Cut and loop Pile – Cut and loop pile combines cut and looped fibers. It provides a variety of surface textures
or sculpted effects for medium durability. Cut and looped pile carpets are available in solid or multiple colors.
The different levels in this type of carpet can hide dirt and foot prints in formal and informal areas.

Level Loop Pile – Level loop is made by weaving even loops of yarn into carpet backing at both ends.
This type of carpet is very durable and track resistant because of its strong loops. Higher loops create
a more luxurious appearance. Level loop piles with short and densely packed loops are easy to clean.
They prevent dirt from filtering into carpet. This type of carpet is ideal for high traffic areas.

Berber – Berbers are increasing in popularity faster than any other type of carpet. Berbers limit footprints
and vacuum marks in informal areas. Berbers can have thicker yarns than other level loop pile carpets for
higher durability. These loops can retain dirt and may be damaged from snags. Berbers come in expensive
wool fibers or less expensive nylon, olefin, or nylon-olefin fibers.

Multi-Level Loop Pile – Multi-level loop pile is like level loop pile except that the loop heights vary (usually
two to three different loop heights). This carpet creates an appearance of random texture. This type of
carpet is good for high traffic areas but the smaller loops sometimes hold more dirt.
